Some think it’s too simple, while others believe they must communicate as if they were native speakers. It’s time to demystify these perceptions and provide a realistic view of what is expected at the A2 level. What is A2 Level? The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) describes A2 as a level where learners can interact and communicate in simple and familiar situations. However, it’s essential to understand the specific nuances of this level to face the CIPLE exam with confidence. Competencies at A2 Level: Here are some key competencies at the A2 level, divided into different areas Skill Description  Listening Comprehension Able to understand enough for concrete needs in clear and slow-paced speeches. Reading Comprehension Able to understand simple and short texts on familiar subjects composed in frequent, everyday language.  Oral Production Able to make simple descriptions or presentations in short sentences about people, living conditions, work, etc.  Written Production Able to write a series of simple sentences linked by connectors like ‘and,’ ‘but,’ and ‘because.’  Oral Interaction Able to handle common and simple exchanges in predictable familiar situations, communicating in simple and habitual tasks.  Written Interaction Able to write simple notes related to immediate needs. Linguistic, Sociolinguistic, and Pragmatic Competencies at A2 Level: In addition to general competencies, it’s crucial to understand linguistic, sociolinguistic, and pragmatic competencies. Pragmatic Competencies In oral interaction, the student can handle routine exchanges, even with some pauses and false starts, and can communicate limited information about routine subjects.
